About Karmic Neighborhood
Armand Ruby and Julian Colbeck, the core duo behind Karmic Neighborhood, are two lifelong musicians who met serendipitously when they moved to the same neighborhood on the California central coast, having taken very different paths to get there.
Julian began his career as a London-based keyboardist and is an accomplished, lifelong music industry veteran with experience both in the studio and on stages throughout the world, while Armand worked professionally as an environmental scientist in the U.S. and stayed involved in music as a part-time musician and songwriter.
Armand and Julian formed a strong bond through their shared passion for musical innovation, their painful yet hopeful life experiences of surviving cancer, a taste for wine, and a compatibly offbeat sense of humor.

“Karmic Neighborhood’s soulful alt-pop single, “I Learned to Forgive,” is a powerful anthem of resilience and hope, carried by the deep, tender, and rich vocals of the renowned Santa Cruz vocalist Tammi Brown. This mid-tempo masterpiece weaves a sensational tale of gratitude and renaissance after facing the harshest of losses.
“Tammi Brown’s vocals, combined with the song’s soul-stirring message, evoke shades of the legendary Nina Simone, who was known for her ability to infuse her music with powerful social messages. “I Learned to Forgive” by Karmic Neighborhood has a profound message that lingers in the heart, resonating with those who have faced adversity and emerged with newfound strength and hope.”
